Title Scientific Answers to Industry Questions about Paint and Coating Production Challenges and Product Development
Introduction Advanced MicroAnalytical offers a wide range of testing and development solutions to industries involved with producing or utilizing paints and other coatings.

Salem, NH, September 26th, 2019

The treatment of surfaces can serve a number of different purposes. These range from cosmetic coloration, protecting a substrate from chemical or abrasive damage, or perhaps modifying the surface properties of a material to increase or remove friction or tack.

Ensuring the right paint or coating is used on a project can be the difference between success and failure. Answering these questions are the scientists from Advanced MicroAnalytical. They offer a wide range of services that include testing the bulk thermal and mechanical properties of coatings, both pre and post application. Advanced MicroAnalytical also provides micro-analytical examination of composition and construction of pigments, fillers, additives and binders. In addition, a variety of aging outgassing and wear studies can be designed to answer questions about the long-term viability of a coating. Other specialty micro-analysis services can be tailored to answer diverse questions clients may have about almost all varieties of coatings and paint materials.

The Advanced MicroAnalytical laboratory and its network of testing facilities have an arsenal of the latest scientific instrumentation at their disposal to answer even the most challenging questions. These include thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) which can determine specific melting points, transition temperatures and liquid/solid contents. X-ray diffraction spectrometry (XRD) can be harnessed to determine the type and concentration of crystalline components. If a paint or coating is unknown, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry can determine its type and many of its component materials. Furthermore, utilizing optical and electron microscopes is often useful for identifying solid components, measuring particle size and layer thickness.

Advanced MicroAnalytical’s material scientists combine the most advanced instrumentation with decades of experience to provide rapid, accurate and concise analysis for customers facing all types of unique challenges.
